NDIS Supports Available for Children and Young People
The NDIS funds support for children and young people with permanent and significant disability across three age-based pathways, each designed to match the participant’s stage of life and developmental goals.
Children under nine access the NDIS through the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) pathway. This pathway does not require a formal NDIS plan — a local ECEI partner assesses the child and connects them with early intervention supports focused on communication, motor skills, behaviour, and social development. Early intervention at this stage has the strongest impact on long-term outcomes, and the NDIS recognises this by making supports accessible without the full plan application process.
School-age participants aged nine to 17 access the NDIS through the standard access pathway with a formal plan. Supports at this stage focus on community participation, social skill development, daily living assistance, and building the independence skills that will carry through to adulthood. Lead Your Life supports school-age participants across Western Sydney and the Inner West with community participation programs, in-home daily living supports, and short-term respite care.
Young people aged 17 to 25 who are finishing school may be eligible for School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) under the NDIS. SLES helps school leavers explore work options, develop employment skills, and build a pathway toward meaningful participation in the workforce. We work with school leavers and their families to understand how SLES can be built into their NDIS plan alongside other supports.
Lead Your Life supports children and young people with a range of disability types and diagnoses, including autism, ADHD, developmental delay, intellectual disability, and physical disability. Every plan is built around the individual child’s goals and needs, and we work closely with families, therapists, and schools to ensure supports are connected and consistent.
Child Safety at Lead Your Life
Lead Your Life is a recognised provider under the Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) Child Safe Scheme in New South Wales. This recognition applies specifically to our Specialised Substitute Residential Care (SSRC) service — overnight respite care arrangements for children and young people when provided for three or more nights within a seven-day period.
As an OCG-recognised organisation, Lead Your Life follows the SSRC Code of Practice and the Child Safe Standards. Our child safety policies and procedures are reviewed regularly, and all staff who work with children undergo appropriate screening, training, and supervision. Families and guardians are involved in all placement decisions, and every child’s safety and wellbeing is central to how we deliver care.

Jason loves going to respite at Lead Your Life. It gives him a good break. Disapointed that we missed out on respite care from Nov to Jan but it good that it now back on track. It would be good if we could get the extra foour days a year and use more respite as a transition accommodation for future permanent accommodation.

FAQ’s
Got any questions?
At what age can my child access NDIS support?
Children can access NDIS support from birth. Children under nine are supported through the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) pathway, which does not require a formal plan. From age nine onwards, children access the NDIS through the standard pathway with a formal plan. Lead Your Life provides services for participants aged seven and above.
What is Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI)?
ECEI is the NDIS pathway for children under nine with developmental delay or disability. It provides early intervention supports — such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and behavioural support — without requiring a full NDIS plan. A local ECEI partner assesses the child and connects families with the right services. Early intervention at this stage is designed to maximise long-term developmental outcomes.
Can my child access NDIS support for ADHD or autism?
Yes, provided the condition causes a permanent and significant functional impairment. ADHD and autism are recognised conditions under the NDIS, but eligibility depends on how the condition affects your child’s ability to participate in daily life — not the diagnosis alone. Evidence from a paediatrician, psychologist, or allied health professional documenting the functional impact is required for an access request. Lead Your Life supports children with both autism and ADHD.
What supports are available for school-age children with disability?
School-age NDIS participants (9–17) can access a range of supports depending on their plan goals. These include community participation programs, in-home daily living assistance, social skill development, short-term respite care, and capacity building supports such as therapy. Lead Your Life provides community participation and daily living supports for school-age participants across Western Sydney and the Inner West.
What is a School Leaver Employment Support (SLES) program?
SLES is an NDIS-funded support that helps young people aged 17 to 25 who are leaving school to explore employment options and build work-related skills. It can include work experience, job skills training, and supported pathways into employment or further education. SLES is a Capacity Building support and is included in the participant’s NDIS plan. Speak with your LAC or support coordinator about including SLES in your young person’s plan.
Does Lead Your Life provide short-term respite care for children?
Yes. Lead Your Life offers short-term respite (STA) for children and young people with disability, giving families and carers a break while ensuring participants receive consistent, safe support. Our short-term respite service for children operates under the OCG Child Safe Scheme for overnight stays of three or more nights. Contact us to discuss availability and eligibility.
How does Lead Your Life keep children safe?
Lead Your Life is recognised by the Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) under the Child Safe Scheme for our Specialised Substitute Residential Care service. We follow the SSRC Code of Practice and the Child Safe Standards. All staff working with children are appropriately screened, trained, and supervised. Families and guardians are involved in all decisions about their child’s care.
How do I enrol my child in NDIS child services with Lead Your Life?
Contact our team to start the conversation. We will discuss your child’s current NDIS plan, their goals, and the types of support we can provide. If your child does not yet have an NDIS plan, we can point you toward the right access pathway and help you understand what evidence is needed to apply.
